Hi I just wanted to hear any stories of anyone in my position. I started nursing school last year in Cali and I am in my 2nd semester. I got a misdemeanor DUI 10 years ago when I was 22 years old. It is expunged now and I don't have any other criminal record. It is no longer on my DMV record as well. I have been completely sober for over 3 years now.
I am concerned about being able to sit for the NCLEX. I wanted to know of anyone in California that has been in my situation and if you were accepted or rejected to sit for the NCLEX initially. What documentation did you send? And what happened afterward...Did you take a stipulated agreement with the BRN or did you appeal their decision etc.
Also, I know the burden of proof is on me to prove that I do not have a problem with alcohol abuse. I wanted to know if any of you had any ideas on how I could prove that. I was thinking of seeing an addiction counselor for the next year until I am done with school and get a letter from him/her documenting my sobriety and that they do not believe I have a problem with alcohol abuse. I have heard of people getting an eval from a psychiatrist and was wondering if I should just do that. Not completely sure what they are looking for.
Any info you have will help.
Thanks.

I'm, kind of, in the same situation as you. I hope you get some more insight. My experience with my EMT certification is to disclose all information. The live scan will find everything DOJ and FBI. It is always better to be honest, explain the situation, and state how you have rehabilitated since the incident.
