Our exclusion day happened last week. It was a total headache. I feel your pain.

I am so glad our exclusion day is the first day of school - kids can not be here if missing immunizations (on schedule kids are ok) or if I do not have the Exemption on file.

I was the bad guy quite a while ago. I my barrel of giveacrap ran dry over parents being mad at me over this a long time ago. I am here to enforce the laws of this state and the policies of the school. You knew what they were and did not follow through by set date. Simple as that.

My favorite is when they swear up, down, left and right that they gave you the forms. Um, no you didn't. My school is small and I don't lose stuff.
I also love those that register in the summer, hand in old immunizations records that shows the kid missing immunizations - we have them get the shots required according to the record they gave us - then they come back 3-4 months later mad because we gave them shots they didn't need. This said mom went straight to upper administration about our "mistake".....lets just say she was eating crow when we showed her the incomplete immunization record she handed us at registration.

I have a love/hate relationship with first day exclusion.
I love having it over at the beginning of the year and washing my hands of it. I hate that I come back to work 7 school days before the kids and I'm calling parents to tell them that they need a physical in the next week in order to start school. Of course, it is not new information, but they will swear up and down that they were never informed that their kid needs a physical/immunizations (I have records of 3 email, 2 auto bot calls, and the freaking state health website guidelines that say different but, ya know).
I hate to see a kid punished (by being excluded first day or any day) because a parent couldn't get their shi... together

We used to exclude on the first day of school but our superintendent threw a fit so now they get 6 weeks from the first day of school and 30 days if they are a new enrollee at any point during the school year.
He is retiring this year though so we may go back to the old way. I work at a middle school and we used to not release schedules to students until their shots were up to date. Someone higher up decided to change that this year too which meant that instead of just a couple of students not being compliant I started out the year with close to 80! We excluded 16 last week and I still have 4 that are still not compliant a week and a half later.
I agree with you on feeling terrible that the kids are punished because their parents can't get their act together. I absolutely hated that part of my day. My principal had to actually make the calls and she hated it too so we brainstormed some ways to make it better next year.
Apparently this school was letting them in without the immunizations requirement just to meet the numbers I just started here last month and its over half the school without immunizations so we are playing catch up because this school got audit smh

My exclusion starts next Friday, first time ever in 12 years we had to go this route.

So for that amount of time, he is willing to allow the possibility of an outbreak? The things that make you go hmmm....
