Hi!
I am a Filipino nurse who has filed an application last 2006 to the US. it was an employment-based immigrant visa application. I am now currently working as a drug rep in the Philippines and just recently, I have received my schedule for interview with the US embassy here in the Philippines. I would like to ask for your opinion on what to do with my current situation. I am planning to get married soon and I do not know how to go about my application if I will change my marital status now or after the interview. Could you please give me an insight on whether to get married before my interview or do it after? How will I include my fiance in my application?

Postponing your marriage is a choice you'll have to make yourself. Regardless of whether you get married or not, the facts are:
Your visa application only includes you and if the visa is granted, you're the only one who gets to go.
If you receive an employment-based immigrant visa and get married, you may file an I-130 Form to petition your spouse to also receive an immigrant visa later. Your spouse's application is separate and will only be processed once you receive an immigrant visa.
Thank you so much for this. But, will it not affect my application of I get married before I go to the US, given that I will be granted an immigrant visa?

Getting married will not affect your application except if getting married after the visa is issued means your husband will not get one until you put in an application for him and he waits for his PD date to come up. May be worth speaking to your lawyers because may be a way of late entry application if married before your interview which means husband will get immigrant visa same time as you.
Please speak to your lawyer
Thank you! I am not in direct contact with my lawyer which is why I am having a difficult time figuring out what to do. How long does it usually take to process a petition for a spouse of a green card holder?
According to the visa bulletin it is current but the lawyer has to deal with the paperwork. Used to be a wait of months to a couple of years so whilst it is current I would suggest getting in touch with your lawyer
Hi again. I will get married before I go to the US. Do you have an idea on how I can process my Spouse-to-be under follow-to-join? If I get married before the interview (consular processing) and bring my marriage contract during the interview, will he be granted a US visa along with me also? or, if I marry after my interview, can I still petition him under follow-to-join? how?
Thank you very much!

Hello. I'm currently living in California but I am a Canadian citizen. I must warn you, the wait for a green card is a long one(if that is your end goal). I moved here in 2002 with my mother who had a RN position awaiting her (and an employment visa of course). After five years, we were eligible to apply for adjustment of status aka green card. Her hospital sponsored us (had they not it would have been roughly $10,000. Ouch). We did this in 2007. Once we applied, we received an employment authorization card (different from a visa. It is valid for two years) and a social security card as well as a travel document required for when you leave the country for travel. My mom's was approved three months ago and mine is coming in the mail (we didn't even need an interview). That is a six year wait for an eb3 class (skilled worker which is what your class will be as well). Of course priority dates differ, but the majority of people wait years. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions.
****EDIT do you have a green card or are you waiting for one/applying for one or a visa? I was unclear when reading your posts. Thanks:)
