I'm worried about my job

Published

I have worked at this hospital for a while over several years. I am in a new dept. working close to a woman who has always been rude and obnoxious to all, she is in a position of authority. This day I was working and per this coworkers usual she came in late, left early. well the adminsitrator came to the ofc and asked if we had been told this nurse had taken the day off, both of us in the ofc said no. The admin. went on to tell us this is not how we do things here and to let her know if there were any prob. Long story short there was a slight hitch but it was handled. At the end of the day I did go to admin and told her things were ok. Unfortunatly, I also told her this is not the first time this happened w/this employee, coming in late, leaving early, rude manner, not being available when she is supposed to be.I did tell the admin, to talk to the other staff not just me and also told her my manager and I had discussed it as well. The admin was shocked to say the least and verbalized she had no idea. This was Fri. I am now so worried about tomorrow and what if I get fired for saying too much? I did talk w/my manager to let her know and she had already planned to talk w/admin soon re: this employee. But what if they say I was gossiping? I dont know how to handle this? but am very scared about tomorrow and being confronted in a bad way by adminstration over this? What do I do, Help..

Is she a charge nurse? Being late as charge is very irresponsible. I had one like that. But the manager and she were thick as thieves. I have no problem saying it that way either. At least it sounds like your manager is behind you....but you never know. Just try to forget about it until judgement day. Act as if nothing has happened. You mearly stated a fact. Hopefully some of your other co-workers aren't so intimidated or afraid that when eventually questioned, they cave in from intimidation from the late nurse. Good Luck. Lung butter and diarrhea are far from the true yucky parts of nursing. You can ALWAYS find another job. oxoxo and blessings.

I work in a home health setting, ofc hours. but for a very large hospital. I feel her manager and she are thick as thieves, which is why she has gotten away with so much, for so long. In her dept they have such a high turnover of nurses mainly because of this manager attitude. She does have several nurses that follow her around. But she is rude to most everyone else that is not her boss. The other part of this is my manager is new here but, has been supported a lot by our admin. so maybe when my manager does talk w/her that will help. Plus when it did come up w/my manager it was not in a gossipy way it was after this nurse said or did something that it came up. I guess I am scared of confrontations and getting called in to the admin ofc. because then I get nervous and feel on the defensive.I would hate to have to look for another job in this horrible economic environment. Thank you for your help.

Little Darling, (not being patronizing, I'm a little darlin too).....there is always agency, PRN, and YOU.......YOU will blow the interviewers away. Just know, YOU CAN MAKE IT EVEN IF THEY FIRE YOU!!!!!!!!! Don't be afraid. That is what they are counting on. For future reference .....do not do or say anything to administration unless you have diplomaticly addressed it in E mails (which you make copies of for your file).....then you can have a case.....if your manager did not engage replies or action.....she can be on the hot seat. Always leave a paper trail. Similar to me......they even tried to make me pay back my unemployement!!!!!!Luckily......it all came out in the wash because of my e mail documentation. In the future...document, document, document!!!! We love you. Do not be afraid. oxoxo

Believe me - - they already know about this employee. You have probably not been the only one to say anything, despite what you were told. You were not 'gossiping' - that would involve other employees, not administration.

Could you get fired? They will have to build a case against you, but anything is possible.

Act as normal as possible when you go to work on Monday. And keep your mouth shut.

Best wishes!

First rule is always don't say anything you wouldn't be comfortable saying to everyone. Justify it with facts, and NEVER bring in emotion.

As long as you stand by what you said and have facts to back it up, then don't worry about it. You followed the chain of command by talking to your manager first, before talking to the next person up. Don't stress it :)

The best thing to do now is keep it professional. Do not discuss it with anyone other than the person you reported to. Do do so would be gossiping. Go to work, do your job the best you can and have faith that things are being taken care of. Remember management cannot always tell you what is being done. Good luck!

You were ASKED to tell by your manager. I agree wholeheartedly with poster that said leave emotion out of it. I think if you make a stand against something, then you have to be willing to make a stand TO that person. They will respect your position, if they don't then do you really care what they think? They are not people you want to be buddy buddy with and all you have to do is your job to the best of your ability and LEAVE and when you leave, drop off all the drama of the day at the door. Go home to the people that love and care for you. Good luck, let us know how it goes!!
