I'm on the waitlist for ADN program at 2 schools, how can I better prepare myself?

Published

I am new to this forum. I am on the waitlist at 2 community colleges for the Associates Degree Nursing Programs in hopes to get my RN license in the near future. I have also taken the recommended classes for preparation, such as, nursing readiness, Pharmacology, and Math for Health Care. If I don't get accepted for the upcoming Spring semester, I will be taking medical terminology. Last semester I was waitlist #101, and then I got my new waitlist #75. I hope I move up more than 26 on the list for this semester, as I have been on 2 waitlists for over a year. I have already passed the TEAS as well.

I would like suggestions on how I can study on my own at home so that I may prepare for the first semester of nursing. Are there any certain books or websites I should study? I feel that I am forgetting my general sciences since I finished my prerequisites a couple years ago. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I'm getting tired of waiting, and I just want to be ready for the program.

Thank you :)

I would recommend staying current and familar with your A & P. All the A & P textbooks by Elaine Marieb are great and you could purchase an older version (the latest will drop down in price/value as new as a new edition is released). I would continue to read that. Personally, I saved all my A & P handouts & power points so that I will have them for later use. They are also multiple books that explain how to be prepared for nursing school. One I can think of off the top of my head is How to Survive & Maybe Even Love Nursing School by Kelli Dunham.

Thank you so much! Maybe I'll get the coloring book, do you think that's a good idea? I'll check out those books on how to survive nursing school too, great idea!

I am just finishing up my first semester of nursing school. Its hard to say what you can do while you wait because every school can have a different curriculum. I never did anything to prepare for the program and so far I am doing just fine. I'd say don't stress yourself out and relax because once you start, you will have no free time until its over. But if you feel that you want to do something while you wait to get in, review the different body systems. Consider getting a med/surg made easy book. I agree with Zoe92 brush up on ur A & P.

Thank you! I applied at Ventura College and Santa Barbara City College. Oth schools require the students to do care plans. I have no knowledge about how to do a care plan. Do you recommend a website to see samples?

Don't worry about Care plans, yet. Which ever school you get accepted to will teach you what they expect. My schools care plan is only 2pages. Some can be 10-30pgs, depending on the schools expectations. A good class to take, if available in your area and if your able to take it would be a Pathophysiology class. That will really help you during the nursing program. I never took it but I wish I would have.

Thank you Mina :)
