Specialties Cardiac

I am a 29yr old mother of three and I have went to school to be a nurse. I want to work in the cardiac unit. but I'm having problems concentrating and getting the grades I need. So I went to the doc. And dhe said that I have adult ADD. and has put me a strattera. I't only been three days. But i feel alot better. But I get sleepy and I'm not sure about functioning. I guess I just need a little advice. I really don;'t have any one to talk to. So thanks in advance

Gerri

Gerri, give the Strattera some time, you may get used to it, or the sleepiness may resolve on its own. Lots of these type meds have side effects that resolve after several weeks. I have self diagnosed myself as mildly ADD and I have a son with ADHD.

I found I had to become extremely organized in school and at work, but I learned how to do things 'my way' so I stayed focused. One, I had to make flashcards to study stuff like A and P and pharmacology, and I still have to write everything down in order to remember it! I learned to sit in the front row in lectures to stay focused. What I'm trying to say is don't give up...you can and will adapt to the ADD in time and learn what works for you...there are lots of books and support groups today that weren't around when I was raising my ADHD son. :)

If school is hard now, consider taking the semester off to deal with this new diagnoses, and go back when you are more comfortable.

If you do a search here, you will find several other threads where we discussed ADD...there are quite a few nurses here who have it and function just fine. :)
