I'm new and hoping for some advice regarding BON

Published

This is my first post so first of all I would like to say Hi to everyone!! I start the LVN program January 17th! I mailed my Declaratory Order to the Texas BON about 2 weeks ago. I got a DUI at the age of 19 (a LONG time ago)....in my letter of explanation....I said that a guy I liked offered me a valium and I really liked him and I wanted to look cool so I said sure and took it..... Well, I was talking to an old friend of mine (that I used to hang out with alot back in those days) and she said yea....I remember when you got a DUI...those Madrix kicked your butt....I was like what? Then I remembered that I didn't take a valium....I took something called a Mantrix, I think I just remembered "valium" because the guy made a reference to it being "just like a valium" or "equal to a valium" something like that.....So ANYWAY....I am SO nervous because I know the BON investigates everything throughly and I'm afraid they are going to think I was trying to sugar coat the incident by putting valium (since that's a prescription drug) versus a Mandrix (which is a street drug). Should I write the BON a follow up letter explaining this? Should I just leave it the way it is? I want to be honest and straight forward. When I went back and looked at my background check the charge says: duics/drugs...so I guess that means driving under the influence of controlled substance....then I guess the drugs is to show that it was street drugs vs. prescription drugs. If I leave it alone I'm afraid they are going to think I was lieing......if I contact them to clarify....I'm still afraid they are going to think something bad.....what would you all do? Thanks so much!

hello and welcome to allnurses.com, stormyskies71

i have always been of the opinion to be honest. so, if that means contacting the bon with a clarification/ammended statement, then you should do so.

good luck.:)

I would send an ammended statement, StormySkies. If you want to contact them by phone, that's o.k., but, they probably will need it in writing.

Siri....May I ask you exactly what is an "ammended statement"? Is it just a plain letter that I write telling them I made a mistake and listed the wrong drug? Would you recommend getting it notarized as well? Should I send it return receipt requested?

Thanks so much....this is really stressing me out!

Yes, a written statement of your corrections/additions/deletions. You can have it notorized if you like. But, it isn't necessary unless the BON asked for the original to be or if they ask any corrections be notorized.

As for sending it receipt requested, that, too is up to you. I suppose it would put your mind at ease that they indeed received it.
