I'm lost as to where to start....

When your an R.N. you can't work in all departments of the Health Field. Whether, it's Labor and Delivery or Cardiology and other stuff. Well, since you want to be an R.N. you should maybe try talking to an Academic Advisor one that is in charge of the Health Occupations Field. Good luck and hope your find what your looking for :)

Since most of you are career-nurses, I feel this could be the proper place to post my questions about where to begin!! I'm really interested in being a labor and delivery nurse. I will have my bachelor's degree soon, although it is not in nursing, so I plan on getting my associate's degree and taking the RN licensure exam. What type of nursing work does this qualify me for? Would I be able to work in labor and delivery (or even ob-gyn at first, if it could lead to labor and delivery work) with this type of background? If not, what would I need to do? Labor and delivery would be my ultimate goal - so can any of you experienced and friendly people here help me out? I have no idea where to start, so I figured this is as good a place as any!! Thanks a lot.

I have been a labor and delivery nurse for three years, before that I was on Telemetry. What a difference!!!!! I do not suggest that anyone go to L&D right out of school, everyone needs a chance to use their med-surg skills first. Don't get me wrong, I love L&D, I can't not think of anything that I would rather do. It is just that it is so different than any other nursing field. I am really glad that I worked on a regular medical floor before coming to L&D. But good luck in whatever you do!!!!!!!!!:balloons:

Once again, new to all this stuff. :) What kind of med-surg would you recommend for an eventual move to L & D? What would help me out for L& D in the future?
