So I had a patient yesterday who'd had abdominal surgery the day before. She had an ABD pad on her belly that had some drainage on it, but we weren't suppose to remove it yet. I thought the drainage looked old,but the family was concerned so I decided to mark it just to reassure them. You could see that the drainage had traveled down the incision line and pooled at the bottom close to her groin area.
So I get my red sharpy and start to outline the drainage. I step back to take a look at my work and say, "That looks very inappropriate!" You guessed it...I had just drawn a giant erect.....man-part...on this woman's belly, complete with a rounded top! Her family (and she) burst out laughing and I turned beat red.
Thank goodness she is one of our cancer patients whom I know VERY well. Her family was eager to show my "artwork" to all her visitors as well. I said that I was glad she wasn't a LOL!
I'm just glad I won't be at work this am when the surgeon comes back to see her! (I think he'll laught too!)
