I'm still working at the juvenile jail--that they call a treatment center and yes I still get stuck for mandated OT 16hr shifts

good news though I found out that the LPN's in the PA state system are at the same level I am for our union--so that will help alot if I can go into an LPN slot and keep my seniority I have now

I also found out that if I take an aide position at the building next to mine which is a mental hospital I can have my LPN paid for by the state of PA through the nurses for the future program although it will be a 3-$4 pay cut to transfer from my juvenile treatment job to the DPW mental health job

Hi, I am not sure what state you are located in but there is something that you might want to check out. Here in Florida in hospitals in my area there are positions called Nurse Techs. Those positions are normally for students who have finished at least the first 3 months, or fundamental portion, of their nursing classes. They can also be filled by someone who was a combat medic in the military or a corpsmen. My male friend from nursing school, Bill was a combat medic in the army, we have not finished our fundamentals course yet. Bill got a job at a local hospital 4 months ago, while we were still dong pre req classes. He was able to get this job early because of his medic training in the military. He works weekend nights exclusively, Fri. night-Sunday night, and makes around 12 an hour (I think it is just under 12 actually with shift differential and weekend exclusives). He works in the CCU and loves it, he wants to be a cardiac nurse. So, I am just saying that this might be a job you can check into getting and make some decent money while you are in school.

I'm in PA and kind of stuck right now at the juvenile jail we need the money and the 3rd shift because the wife works dayshift and we have 2 kids a boy 8 and a girl 11

so working 3rd shift we don't pay for babysitters

I need to do something though because more and more staff are quitting so that makes more and more OT and the place just isn't safe--its worse than a prison we carry only a fm radio to call for help no weapons allowed and like I said before they are hiring small male and female college grads that get 0 respect from the thugs--these guys are all benching over 200 and a few in the 400lbs they are huge for teenagers they r 16 to 21 yrs old in and out of juvenile placements since age 12 or so and every place they go they r well fed and allowed to lift weights--great idea for teenagers who can't control their tempers

I told management we need to make a common sense commity and I'll be the president and they have proven themselves to be un qualified to even come to the meetings--yes I'm hated their--they don't like people who speak up--they want peons
