my grades were not the greatest in High School,10 yrs ago I was in the army national guards and was a 91B combat Medic,however after the medic school I did not have any other training and we didn't do anything other than inventory medical supplies,height&weight for soldiers--a bandage here and there. My question is how difficult would LPn school be for me--I passed the medic stuff with no problems while other people around me were failing and dropped from the course I'm also wondering if my HS grades (transcripts) will keep me from even being accepted into LPN school I've been thinking about doing this for many yrs and I'm finally ready to go for it. thanks for any advice

Hello to all I'm in PA and kind of stuck right now at the juvenile jail we need the money and the 3rd shift because the wife works dayshift and we have 2 kids a boy 8 and a girl 11 so working 3rd shift we don't pay for babysitters I need to do something though because more and more staff are quitting so that makes more and more OT and the place just isn't safe--its worse than a prison we carry only a fm radio to call for help no weapons allowed and like I said before they are hiring small male and female college grads that get 0 respect from the thugs--these guys are all benching over 200 and a few in the 400lbs they are huge for teenagers they r 16 to 21 yrs old in and out of juvenile placements since age 12 or so and every place they go they r well fed and allowed to lift weights--great idea for teenagers who can't control their tempers I told management we need to make a common sense commity and I'll be the president and they have proven themselves to be un qualified to even come to the meetings--yes I'm hated their--they don't like people who speak up--they want peons

I was on here a yr ago https://allnurses.com/forums/f8/strictly-business-non-caring-lpn-190285.html I'm still working at the juvenile jail--that they call a treatment center and yes I still get stuck for mandated OT 16hr shifts good news though I found out that the LPN's in the PA state system are at the same level I am for our union--so that will help alot if I can go into an LPN slot and keep my seniority I have now I also found out that if I take an aide position at the building next to mine which is a mental hospital I can have my LPN paid for by the state of PA through the nurses for the future program although it will be a 3-$4 pay cut to transfer from my juvenile treatment job to the DPW mental health job

I guess you could say my attitude isn't non caring but more reality based as in I tell the truth blunt and to the point like where I work now we have staff calling off everyother weekend or calling off the day before their weekend and they call off the 1st day they were suppose to come back--well I get stuck for a 16hr shift when that happens so when I see them again I say hello scumbag and then they cry to the boss--the boss asks me why I can't get along with others--I explain the situaition and the boss says oh they are being scumbags aren't they--truth hurts but not enough to keep the spoiled DPW workers of PA coming into work everyday

new here 38yr old male looking into the LPN schooling because there are no jobs in my area,I currently work 3rd shift as a youth development aide at a so called treatment center,it's really just a place for criminals 16-20 to hang out and lift weights and beat up staff--where I get mandated for 16hr shifts all the time because people are abusing the system calling off sick or faking injuries,they keep hiring skinny little boys and girls fresh out of college to deal with muscle bound gangbangers from Philly I was a combat medic in the army national guards a few yrs ago and now I'm looking into LPN as a career but I know how I am with people--I just want to get the job done and whiny little fakers just piss me off and I have no sympathy or time for that crap so I guess my question is- can I get away with just being me, passing meds, giving treatments and doing the paperwork etc etc without kissing any ass and pretending to feel sorry for those that just seek attention I'm not a complete prick all the time I can tell the difference from somone in need of care and somone who is just being a baby I have children and I've been hurt plenty of times myself guess I really just want a job where I can pass meds and do paperwork and not much else-somebody else can do the hiny powdering:D
