If you knew then what you know now, would you still become a nurse? I am contemplating going into nursing, but I am 39 years old and am very discouraged reading these forums. Someone mentioned respiratory therapy as being a good option. What healthcare related field would you recommend? What would you go into (healthcare-wise) if you could do it again?

You have a very good perspective on what has gone wrong with nursing! I agree with your views and wish we could get the powers that be to understand what we need as nurses to do our jobs and take care of the patients.

i absolutely would.....there is no choice for me as i have always felt compelled to care for people. i wish i would have done it sooner. i don't like how far away from the bedside nurses have been pushed tho.

please don't let the rants get to you....nursing is a challenge and this forum is a safe place to decompress, laugh at the things only a nurse finds funny and support, cry with or to each other. if you feel that you want and need to be a nurse go for it!

good luck in whatever your choice!
