If you did not have to worry about money to live on while attending school and had a choice of an LPN Program or taking pre-reqs for an RN program which would take longer to complete, which would you do and why?
Also, how much harder is the two year RN program than an LPN program?
I am still trying to make a decision and trying to look at this from all views.
Thanks for your replies and blessings to you.
If money were no object I would have done a private college with a 4 yr BSN RN program. If money were an object (which it was) I would do a community college ADN RN program and get the BSN later. If I had a bit of money (but not much) I'd wait for a 4 yr BSN RN at a state university. Money or no money, I'd bypass the LVN option entirely.

I would go for the RN hands down. You will be able to find a job easier, you'll be more thoroughly educated, you'll make much more money (at my hospital it's nearly double), and you will have endless career choices and many opportunities to advance that you won't have as an LPN. If you do a LPN-RN program it will end up taking you longer to finish and it will be more costly in the end.

GO FOR YOUR RN!!!!! I have been an LPN for 14 years and make about $5 an hour less than BRAND NEW GRAD RN'S who I (with emphasis) end up training in our little facility!! I, too, took my LPN "to see if nursing really was for me" and have regretted it since!! I do 90% of the same things the RN's here do and make considerably less!!! Believe me...it will pay off in the long run!!! Best of luck to you!!
