Its sickening to see the medical professional worry about what insurance the pt. has and how will they get paid for them, and care less about actually trying to Nurse the pt. back to a healthy state.
I'm dreaming, one day i'll like to change the way medicine is practiced, just like Steve Jobs charged the way how we communicate..
Another crazy idea, when you drop off your car for an inspection, you don't hand them your insurance card, but instead a C.C. if we can use the same concept and pay a small fee for Dr.. visits and save insurance for Major complication issues. i feel we will be in a better place. People will be forced to take responsibility for their actions..
Be the change you want to see !!!!

If you pay out of pocket for a dr. visit, it isn't a small fee. Mine is $180, so I haven't seen a dr. while I've been uninsured. The NP is the same price. The regular labs they run cost hundreds as well. A general check up would easily cost $500-800. Still sound like a small fee?
the prices you listed were marked up, those practitioners are only interested in making money !! and the real cost of blood work etc will be something reasonable..
you listed a perfect example with what is wrong with the current system !!
Well, yes, people need to make money. Salaries, building maintenance, equipment, it all costs money. I think we need insurance to be non-profit: shareholders shouldn't exist, profit margins shouldn't exist.
