I've been trying to get a fix on how much they'd charge you for those two courses and their website is pretty circular... I end up back where I started, and still don't know what's what. I did figure out that the courses are offered by distance ed, so you wouldn't actually have to attend classes, can start when you're ready and be done when you're done. I think you need the peds and obstetrics stuff, right? I can't get any solid info on them, but I looked at a gerontology certificate course and this is where I found it: http://www.macewan.ca/web/hcs/post_basic_nursing/Program/WidePage.cfm?id=853&MenuOption=1&Line=7
Are you a permanent resident, landed immigrant or an "international" student? Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Thanks for your help JanfRN, I thought the same about their website very circular. I am a Permanent Resident.
Hopefully find out more info towards end of week and get the courses going??
Thanks again:balloons:
Good thing you're a permanent resident. It'll cost you a lot less than if you were one of those "international" students. Boy they sure find enough ways to sock it to a person in the wallet don't they? You've come so far. It would be a shame to let it all collapse now. Best wishes.
Well, JanfRN, they socked it to me good. To let it collapse is creeping in.
We do offer these courses. They are 4 months each and the clinical would be arranged in Calgary. Your tutor is in Edmonton. The cost is $1518 for OBS (NURS322) and $1529 for Pediatrics (NURS324). Clinical is arranged once you have completed all your assignments and written your two exams. Clinical is 2 weeks for each.
I know I could go back to Australia and do one of the courses such as Maternity for a longer length of time ie 10months and cost a lot less, way way less. I really didnt expect that both courses would be expensive.
I have no idea what to do and I have yet to find out if they have a payment plan, and when to pay it? So it they ask for it upfront, they have buckleys getting it from me. I am trying to survive in Calgary, work my butt off as a NA and get paid less for what I am trained to do.
I dont know, I am so confused, angry, upset and the idea of going back to Australia is tempting. No BS, and I can work as an RN with no problems. Arrggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. i have spent so much money to get over here and to know more money has to be shelled out and for what, because if I do get through then its the CRNE and if I attempt it 3 times and fail, then its all been waste.
Geez, at those prices it would cost about $40,000 to do a full degree. And they wonder why people go into fields other than nursing. I know they have a financial aid department, but I don't know what their criteria are or how much they'd be willing to help... That is a LOT of money.
I'm so sorry that this is happening to you. If you went back to Oz and did the two courses, would you then think about coming back to Canada? What a conundrum.
Hi JanfRN
Well I just did my research for Australian post grad courses and I was wrong they are way more expensive than Canada, but yeh what a conundrum (good word). So I yet to find out how the payments will work because I aint no rich gal. Overall, I still dont get the International Nursing Assessment, to me there is no logic for a med/surg nurse to do that when they may not work in Peds or Maternity. Although if I had to choose one it would be Obstetrics.
Will keep you posted. If I won lottery then hey maybe I will do the courses but then a part of me thinks not to.
Ciao for now
Well I received a reply today from Grant MacEwan, stating that I need to pay the money upfront. Like Oh yeah I am such a rich girl and can pull that money out of my wallet>>>NOT. I cant believe this, like Idont think that is fair.
Should I just go back to Australia or stay in Canada and pursue something else?
