I'd be a Vet.

Published

I, like a couple others, would have loved to be a Veterinarian. I've actually looked into it....but I just don't have the money or drive to go back. Besides...I really don't think I'm smart enough...I hear the competition to get into Vet. school is way more stiff then to get into "human" medical school....yikes.

Anybody do this track after nursing or ever think about doing it???? Just curious. :roll

Ok....Apparently I got up to early after working the night shift...I'm thinking I hit the new thread button instead of the reply to "If I wasn't a nurse I'd be a __________. Sorry guys.....my bad. :chuckle

My mom's best friend's daughter just finished her first semester of vet school. She got a 4.0! We're all very proud of her. Yes the program was hard to get into. She's a very bright gal who loves animals and will make a WONDERFUL vet. I would trust her with my babies!

Specializes in CIC, CVICU, MSICU, NeuroICU.

I applied and got accepted to vet school this year. However due to financial reason I was unable to attend and had to declined. I think there was about 2000 applicants applied last year, I was one of the 77 people they selected. I received my BS from California State University Los Angeles with a 3.8 GPA. I won an undergraduate research grant from the National Science Foundation so I did research in molecular biology lab for two years. Our lab published two papers in the Journal of Molecular Biology and I was one of the co-authors in those papers.

I scored really high in the GRE except for the verbal...(it was in the medium percentile). Applied to two school got accepted into one, rejected by the other.

I was pretty depressed for several months when I found out that I couldn't go to vet school. After months of research, nursing school seems to be the best choice for me at the moment. I spoke with one of my best friend who was an NP. He loves what he does to his patients and the pay is not bad at all.

I didn't consider nursing career as a fallback but an equal alternative. Both professions deal with clinical science and helping others.

This year I applied to two nursing schools and I was very fortunate to be accepted into both schools for the Jan class. To be fair with people who are waiting to get in, I had already declined the offer at one of the school.

In my opinion, things happen for a reason. I didn't my best trying to achieve my dream career but sometime you need to get sidetrack to be where you need to be.

I am very happy with my decision to attend nursing school. Who knows...may be once I save up enough funds I may try the vet school thing again.

I once thought about it, I grew up on a farm and do love animals. I would have wanted to specialize in small pets though. There is a vet program near were I live, but I also heard it was tough and didn't have the drive to start all over again.

So I am still a NICU nurse, and have a cat! I help out at the local animal shelter.
