ICU Registered Nurse – Kerrville, TX (Night Shift 7PM-7AM)

Position Summary:

The Registered Nurse assumes accountability and responsibility for quality of care provided to patients and their families according to the Standards of Nursing Practice.

The Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing and reassessing each patient and planning the care that includes the spiritual, emotional, physiological and psychosocial needs. The response to these needs are evaluated and documented in the patient's record. Once developed, the Registered Nurse is responsible to see that the Plan of Care is carried out through performance and/or appropriate delegation to unit personnel.

Requirements:

Education: Required: Graduate of accredited school of Nursing

Preferred: BSN

Technical Skills: Required: Knowledge and ability to perform the skills necessary for the unit specific competencies.

Preferred: PALS

Licensure /

Registration /

Certification:

Required: Current Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse, BLS, ACLS (if not currently ACLS certified, must complete within six months of employment, and thereafter renew within two months of the recommended dateof renewal).

Preferred: CCRN

Experience: Required: Possess the knowledge to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for patients. One year experience as an RN on a medical/surgical unit.

Preferred: Previous experience as an RN in an Intensive Care Unit.

Essential Functions:

1. Performs/complies with all hospital policies and procedures for patient assignment, shift to shift report, transfers, performance improvement, safety, service care, infection control, and competency requirements. Responsible for ensuring that RN assessment and restraint assessments are completed each shift. Responds to Medical Evaluation Team and Code Blue/White calls as assigned. Performs narcotic counts and crash cart checks as assigned. Ensures that patient medications are secured.

2. Prioritizes patient care, makes rounds, clarifies orders, understands and utilizes order entry and the nursing module. Updates care plans, kardex, documents patient symptoms, responses, progress, and notifies the physician of changes in conditions.

3. Handles stressful situations while remaining calm and compassionate toward patients, family and colleagues.

Respects patient privacy by protecting confidential information unless obligated by law to disclose the information.

4. Assists the physician with procedures and exams while providing patient comfort, safety and privacy. Prepares for and provides moderate sedation for patients as required. Coordinates patient care with other departments while in the hospital and after discharge. Provides patient teaching.

5. Responsible for implementing and ensuring compliance with core measures and patient safety goals.

6. Maintains a cooperative professional relationship with the health care team by building rapport and participating in team problem solving methods. Practices commitment to co-workers. Is receptive to change in job responsibilities.

Works with the House Supervisor, Director and Charge Nurse to ensure safe staffing.

7. Performs duties in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act. Is responsible for continuing education, competence and individual professional growth. Demonstrates the ability to make efficient use of all resources. Strives for continuous improvement. Keeps Charge Nurse and Director informed of any issues
