If you have a resident that is admitted ICF MEDICAID, NOT SKILLED, you have 14 days to do the initial assessment, say they leave on their 7th day,and goes home , you code their discharge 8, for discharged prior to assessment, so you would NOT do their MDS since they were only there 7 days, they are NOT SKILLED, is this correct? We have always done ICF this way , if they leave and go home prior to their 14th day, we understand that Medicaid pays by the Quarter unlike Medicare Part A, we always do a Skilled 5 day assessment / MDS even if the person was only there 1 day. We seem to be having a disagreement on this. Can use any help that you can offer. Hurry!!!!!!:argue:

Hi--am not sure what you mean by "Medicaid pays by the quarter".
But YES--the way you are doing your MDS assessments is correct for national/OBRA) requirements.
If a (non-MC, non-Tricare, non-insurance) person is admitted and in the facility for less than 14 census (12 mn) days, the OBRA assessment schedule is NOT required. (even if the person is discharged on day 14.)
Just a tracker 8 as you described.
However, your state may require a partial MDS or other documentation to support Medicaid billing.
