Hi I'm Quanesha, I'm enrolled at Athens technical college and have to take five major classes and out of the five classes I have to get a 3.68 GPA to get into the Nursing program. I have to take: AP I & II, Introductory Microbiology, English Composition and Rhetoric, Mathematical Modeling. I was wondering if anybody had any insight on the classes or study aids, books, etc... that would be helpful in succeeding. I was thinking about getting the anatomy coloring book and the microbiology book too. I want to ace AP 1 & 2 and microbiology, and the math, cause everyone say there going to be hard but with a lot of studying I can do it.

.

I bought the A&P coloring books and never used them. I really did not have the time to do them. I spent extra time in lab and just memorized everything. I took A&P 1 and 2 in the summer back to back so that was 5-6 weeks each class and I managed to get an "A" in 1 and a "B" in 2. If you spend the time studying the materials in the book and your class notes you should do good but it does take a lot of studying. Good Luck----Kelli

Thanks sooo much for the advice!

Hi Braylon, I too am looking for the best study guides to help me in my A&P and micro classes. After only three weeks in class and a couple tests looming, I am really liking my small dry erase board. I know it sounds simple, but in my A&P class, correct spelling is mandatory to receive credit on tests! So I like to think I am saving some trees by using the board and just writing the names over and over on it. I think it's starting to sink in! I can also draw diagrams on it. Another tip is to share notes with your classmates and that way you can see if you both wrote down the main ideas from the lecture. Of course I always carry around my index cards on a metal ring with my definitions on one side and the answers on the flip side. I cut the cards in half for the more simplier terms and it makes it more manageable. I use the full size cards for diagrams and more complicated terms and concepts. Hope that helps in some way!

hello quanesha.

i'm taking the same classes you're taking. here are some things that help me when studying. hopefully you can use them to effectively study.

i try to find a comfortable and quiet place with good lighting. try not to study for more than an hour straight without taking a break. take at least 10 minute breaks and walk around. don't stay up all night to cram for exams. it is better to study in small blocks of time than trying to cram for an exam. only study the stuff you don't know, don't waste your time on things you already know. read in advance before lectures. tape the lectures, if allowed by your school, and listen to them again as you're studying your notes. you should ask questions while in class if you don't understand something.

for me anatomy requires learning through repetition while physiology requires understanding things more deeply. when you study, try put things in your own words. you'll understand and remember them better if they are your own words and not the instructor's.

don't forget to eat well and get a good night sleep.

good luck! you'll do just fine.
