Hi!I went to MDCC and graduated in 1980 so it's been a while. It was a good school, you get good theory and good practical.(Again,it's been a while).I guess I can just speak to the fact that if you want to get into nursing fairly quickly, like the next 2-3 years,it's a good idea. That way you can be a practicing nurse and hopefully study for and take your BSN.At most hospitals or other places of work they have tuition reimbursement to partially pay for your continuing studies. To get this tuition reimbursement you have to work full time. It's doable usually as long as you aren't super busy with a bunch of kids etc.
Otherwise if you go into a Bachelor Degree program it will take about 4 years before you can even practice nursing and earn any money.
It's up to you and your situation what you have time/money for and what you can do.
Good luck!! We need new nurses!!!!
Hi PiePat and welcome!
You would never believe how shy, quiet and not very confident that I was when I started nursing school. I was very good at the written stuff but I actually shook in the clinical settings.Once I was supposed to put a foley cath into a pt(my first) and I maintained sterile technique and everything but I was shaking so bad(the foley was whipping back and forth in my hand) that my instructor had pity on me and we had a chat about my confidence. All of this was not in front of the patient thankfully and the next time i did fine.
The nursing instructors are there to help you and you will learn so much and once you start getting practicals in your confidence will increase.
Believe in yourself girl!:heartbeat
