I want to work in the USA

Published

Hi all,

I am an English nurse wishing to relocate to the USA with my family. I am a registered nurse in the UK and I am also a registered public health practitioner. (In the UK we are called Health Visitors). I also have a Batchelors Degree in Sociology and have just obtained a Masters Degree in Child Protection Studies. I am hoping my qualifications and experience will enable me to work within the field of Public Health Nursing in the US....

but.... I don't know how to begin the process....can anyone help? Any advice on the quickest way to achieve my goal would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

I think the best for you is to look for an American employer that will sponsor immigrant visas for you and your family. I believe there are many American recruiters in the UK. Contact them.

The quickest way for you to get the States is to look for employers based in New York, New Jersey or any states under the jurisdiction of the Vermont Visa Center. Hope this info helps. Good luck!

It is going to depend on if you had the appropriate number of hours in each of the areas that are required in the US. Many nurses from the UK do not and have to take a bridge program. The US requires that you are are generalist and in the UK, you are trained as a specialist. I would first check to make sure that your classes qualify you first.

Next, I would have to disagree with what Rep said about an agency to sponsor you. From the UK, there have just been too many horror stories to count. If you do things on your own, you can be in the US in about one year, if your credentials are accepted. If you go with an agency, you are looking easily at about 2 1/2 years plus you will not get your choice of facilities that way. Direct hire is the way to go. Why should the money go to the agency and not to you? You should be researching everything and doing most of the work on your own to begin with.

Good luck..................

I agree with you! From a Philippine setting, there is nothing for us Filipino nurses to do except go to the agencies. With a monthly salary between $100 to $150, most of us could not afford even the exams' fees alone.

How I wish we have that kind of choice but at best we have the chance to achieve our dreams to work and live in the US. :)

Still don't agree with you there. Hospitals are around that you can direct hire with, and with the bonuses that are being paid, would cover your expenses.

It just takes some time on the computer initially, and then you can get everything done yourself. And in a much quicker time frame.

I will keep that in mind. Thanks a lot for your advice! :)
