There is no additional schooling involved. Back in the day, many places wanted you to have a year on the floors before coming to the OR. This is not the case anymore in many areas. They'll take new grads-the orientation is about a year though.
Best thing to do is while you are still in school, see if you can get a student nurse internship in the OR. This will expose you to the area and they may even teach you to scrub. You will be a familiar face and you will gain experience. I was a surgical tech before, so I had my OR nurse job lined up already before I even graduated.
Good luck!:)

I am currently still in school and will begin my clinicals soon. I really feel that I want to go into this field once I graduate. Can anybody tell me if I need to have additional schooling, how much RN experience, and is this position difficult to get into? Any advice you have would be so helpful. Thanks!
