I want to move to Chicago!!!!

Hello everyone!

I'm an RN with a ASN degree who currently works at Shands at the University of Florida Hospital in Gainesville, FL. I want to try something new and it seems like Chicago is the right city for me. I'm planning to move to the north side of Chicago in August of 2009. What are some good hospitals near that area? I would prefer to work in a magnet and/or teaching hospital just like the place I work in now. Also, is it difficult for an ADN nurse like me to find a job there? How soon should I apply? Thanks!

You need to get your Illinois license in progress before the hospitals will even talk to you. Also, the market here sucks right now due to the economy. Try to keep an open mind regarding positions! I'm trying to get into an ICU here and I've had not much luck so far.

Thought I would send a quick response to your e-mail because you sound like I did, just a few months ago.

I moved to Chicago in August 2008 for "something new" and I currently live on the North side. North Shore Hospital (formerly called Evanston Hospital) is a really nice hospital. I applied with them when I initially moved to Chicago but I chose to do agency work instead. (I am now wishing I had taken the job) At the time I spoke with the Recruiter, they were currently working on getting Magnet status. You shouldn't have a hard time getting a job with an ASN. I noticed alot of jobs will post "BSN Preferred" on their websites but basically, if you have an Illinois license you'll be fine.
