hi everyone

how are you? I have been an RN for 4 years now. I have 2 years of med/surg experience and two years of long term care experience. How can i get in to CM. I have applied for CM jobs but no response. Please help. I don't know what to do? Thanks :)

Another way to a CM position is in attaining the CCM (Certified Case Manager) credential. More information can be found at:

http://www.ccmcertification.org/

ANCC has a certification as a Case Management Nurse as well:

When applying for jobs, Human Resources may pick up on your resume or application faster with these certifications listed. These certifications come in handy when job hunting!

Specializes in home health, peds, case management.

the catch with the ccm cert (and i believe the ancc cert as well) is that you must have actually worked as a case manager in order to even sit for the exam.

You stand correct. The ANCC CM exam and CCM exam require work experience in order to take the exam.

The CCM Certification Guide explains eligibility requirements which include work experience. Specific information can be found at: http://www.ccmcertification.org/pages/14frame_set.html

There are other avenues in which to get certified within the healthcare and case management field without having prior work experience. The following certifications suggest prior work experience, however, work experience is not required to take the exam. Any type of certification will help you to market yourself, so just try!

CPHQ (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) offered through the Healthcare Quality Certification Board. More information can be found at:

http://www.cphq.org/

CPHM (Certified Professional in Healthcare Management) offered through Mckesson:

http://www.mckesson.com/en_us/McKesson.com/For%2BPayors/Private%2BSector/Professional%2BCertification/Professional%2BCertification.html

CHC (Certified in Healthcare Compliance) offered through the Health Care Compliance Association. More information can be found at:

http://www.hcca-info.org/Content/NavigationMenu/CHCCertification/AboutCertification/default.htm

The CHC requires work experience in healthcare compliance that reflect tasks in the exam content outline. A student in a CCB accredited university program who completes compliance coursework is eligible to take the exam. Interested applicants must read the eligibility requirements.

Does anyone know of any other certification exams like the ones listed above?
