I want to go back to school for nursing but I haven't a clue where to start

Published

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this site and tried googling a lot of info about nursing school. Here is what I'm working with: I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology and want to go back to school for nursing. My GPA from College was barely a 2.5 (because I was young and unfocused). Now that I have life experience, I am truely refocused and really want to become an RN and eventually become an OR nurse (or surgical nurse). What are my best routes? Do I need to start from scratch at say a 2 year like GPC or Dekalb tech, or should I just really call the Colleges and see what's the best route I should take. I'm just totally confused. ANY help or advice please! Thanks for your time in reading this.

You would have to pick a cheap school, take pre reqs (the classes you needed before the nursing program) once you complete those with good grades, take the required entrance test at the school and then apply to the program. I guess right now you should be figuring out what school fits you. You should try georgia perimeter

I agree with an2on and used to be in a similar situation a you. I had a BS in psych with a dual major in another liberal arts field. I worked for several years and earlier this year my office closed due to the bad economy and I ended up going back to school. I always wanted to be a nurse and I figured it was now or never and enrolled to be a student at GPC. Even though I already had the BS, I still had to take Chem I, Anatomy and Physiology I and II, and I am taking Microbiology right now. I even had to redo some classes because they didn't count like Public Speaking and a few others, but for my financial aid I had to go full time anyway. So I have been filling the rest of the hours with classes I either needed to take or thought would benefit my career path like First Aid (the class offers certification with AHA and Red Cross both at my campus) and Nursing Dosages. Anyhow, I would suggest you sit down and go through some of the schools nursing programs online- pretty much all of them have their requirements posted along with a time line, then you will need to figure out which program you want to do. Hope this helps and best of luck!

Ok thanks so much guys! I think I will contact Georgia Perimeter College and see how I can start. I do not mind starting over at all either :-).
