Hello Nurses!
I am a community health nurse for the geriatric population, over 4 years. I first started my job hoping to gain 2 years of experience and move into a inpatient hospital job. I have had 2 interview since (Pediatric hospital for a PCU and a case management position) both jobs I did not get. I am looking for guidance and to see if any nurses have similar experience. I may not be a strong interviewee, I must work on that but I am a great nurse.
Any suggestions and or advice would help, thank you!!

Did you want those jobs or were they simply convenient? It may be that you truly didn't and it showed in your interview.
I would suggest thinking of what type of nursing you truly want. Then see all the that fit what you want. I would also loosen up in interviews. I know it's stressful and a little unnerving but if you can lighten the mood in the room you'll feel a lot better. For example i was interviewing for a charge nurse position. I was nervous even though all the interviewers were people i worked with and felt very comfortable around. When I'm nervous I stutter and my brain goes blank. My director gave me a copy of the job description to read. Everyone was just sitting there, looking at me, waiting for me to finish reading it. I was wearing a new mascara and every time I blinked my eyelashes stuck together. It was getting a little uncomfortable for me and i just wanted it to be over. I looked up, everyone looking at me. I looked them all straight in the eyes and said "the damn mascara is creating a velcro affect making it hard to read this". Everyone laughed. The tension was lifted. I felt calm enough to finish reading the job description and finish the interview. Which landed me a charge position.
Good luck, if you haven't already found a new position.
Thank you Tammy
I was so excited for the pediatric position. I continued to say "Its has always been a Dream to work with the pediatric population", I prepared a nursing portfolio and read up on the specific hospital and job description on my own. They scheduled me to shadow a nurse for 8 hours. I am honestly confuse on what speciality would be "Right" for me since I have yet work in a hospital setting. I think that's more of my fear. Almost, like a new grad.
