I want to apply to 2 nursing schools

And it's a big freaking mess. twitch.gif

Nursing school #1

Non-nursing classes I would have to complete are:

College Algebra*

Intro to Biological Chemistry*

A+P 1 and 2

Microbiology

Lifespan Development

*Classes are ones I need to apply to the program, and I would have to take the NET. If everything stays on track, I should be able to apply this upcoming December/January and hopefully start Fall 2010, but more likely Spring 2011.

The classes are held approx 30 min away in a downtown major city, with lots of rush hour highway traffic involved, construction. and not-so-good area. The reputation of the school is okay. They have an approx 20% attrition rate and 90% NCLEX pass rate.

Nursing school #2

Non-nursing classes I would have to take are:

A+P 2

Lifespan Development

Intro to Sociology (maybe)

This is the school that I attended before and was enrolled in nursing classes in 2001. According to the advisor I've talked to my previous science classes are still good (I will double-check when I apply.) I can apply now and be put in a pool of applicants. Once I finish the above classes I would be placed at the top of the list for nursing classes, so I could hopefully start Fall 2010 but there are no guarantees. The catch is I need to finish the above classes this fall semester.

The classes are held 30 min away in a neighboring county that I am very familiar with, since having lived there for the majority of my life. It would be a straight shot on a highway with little traffic issues. They have a good reputation, a 10% attrition rate and 90% NCLEX rate.

The biggest problem is the classes are totally different depending on which program I want to apply to. I don't know what to do and I am mulling it over right now.

IMO option 2 seems like the easiest route and most attainable....those 3 classes can be done in one semester easily, and you mentioned you're familiar w/ the area and the commute is easier

You're right, but I don't want to give up on #1, if that makes sense.

I think this fall I am going to take College Algebra, Intro to Biological Chemistry, Lifespan Development, and A+P 2. It's going to be a lot but I think it will be worth it to have the options.

Specializes in Urgent Care NP, Emergency Nursing, Camp Nursing.

I don't think that your two schools are mutually exclusive. I, too, would focus on school #2 as it has a more immediate deadline, but also because two out of the three classes you'd need for school #2 are also on school #1's list. Your intended class list seems like you're doing your best to kill as many birds with one stone as you can.
