Our hospital is bringing this into several departments and I'm curious what other nurses' experience may have been with this. I don't know much about it but it is being touted as a way to really speed up getting results for various blood gas tests, etc. Any feedback is appreciated!:p

Almost instant results, by the time that you would have gotten the specimen to the lab, you already have the results in your hand.

Do be able to get instant blood gas results, as well as potassium, and hmct would maek everyones life easier. Especially if you are doing them frequently.

Used it at the facility that I was at last year, and loved it.

That's great to hear. I was concerned that the cartridges would be difficult to handle. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks! I was concerned that this might be a pain to train all the staff on and that the cartridges would be tough to handle. Thanks so much for the feedback!!!

This POC instrument is relatively easy to use with a little bit of training. Hopefully the lab's POC coordinator or an Abbott representative will be giving the training session.

Just remember to always do your QC, and when in doubt send a sample to the lab for verification of the results. These devices may be relatively "trouble-free", but this does not mean that they can't break down or give wacky results sometimes.

Have worked with this product at several ER's in my area. Quick way to receive results. Can be used for ABG's, cartridge also for electrolytes and seperate one for creatinine. Easy to use. The results are comparable to the lab. We would always send tubes to the lab for confirmation and the results were always in the same range.
