I'm starting nursing school tomorrow! It's an intensive 2 year program (RN) and I'm more than excited to embark on this crazy journey. Any tips for my first day?

I hope you have a great first day! :)

I have an all day professional orientation tomorrow and then classes start Wednesday. I am excited and nervous!

I'm going back for my RN (just had to do a couple of prereqs) next semester. I don't remember feeling these feelings 27 years ago. I remember feeling excited, and I loved nursing school. I also loved being a nurse. I know how many of you are going to react but RN school and LPN school back then was not that different. In fact, we had way more clinical hours. My LPN program director stated that she assumed that at least 90% of the LPNs that graduated from their program would go on to RN programs so "you may as well start now." We were very well versed in Nursing Diagnosis and Care Plans. We were in no way just bed makers and bed pans. The standard LPN program back then was 12 months, ours was extended to 18 months. Pharmacology, IVs, Maternal Child, Med Surg, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Ortho, everything they could jam in there, they did. Our clinical was from 6am-5pm Mon Wed and Fridays. I loved it but i don't remember it being so scary. I took things as they came. To me grades didn't matter as much as if I knew what I was doing and doing it right. I wanted to learn because I wanted to, not to get a grade. I didn't graduate at the top of my class but I did get a scholarship for having the best Nutrition grade (hey it was $1000 not bad). Everyone I've ever worked with said that I must have been a great student. I just laugh because I was a great learner, but a great student...no, I was just average. A great student doesn't always make a great nurse.
