I really need some advice

Hello to everyone,incase you have not already viewed my other posting i will quickly re-introduce myself.My name is Jackie and i am a nursing major at the University of central florida right now i am about to finish my first year at college(yes i just graduated high school c/o 2003) and i'm finding tha i'm really displeased with the current program i am in at UCf so i'm interested to know what schools or nursing programs some of you were in to better help me continue my goal of becoming a nurse i also could use some advice on the diffrent types of nurse there are i wanted to be a nurse that works in maternity or an OB nurse or and operating room nurse but i am still in the dark on a lot of these things so any advice that anyone could give is much needed and greatly appreciated,so if anybody wants you cn im me at Baby101199 or e mail me @ [email protected] thank so much. Hi Jackie, I'm Brenda. I've been a nurse for 8 years. You are starting a great career. I'm sorry to hear that you are not happy with the school you are attending. I live in Seattle, so I don't know anything about Florida, except I'd like to visit someday with my family! Anyway, I work in postpartum, and love it. I have responded to some other threads, so I feel like I'm repeating myself, but I really do so love nursing, and working in postpartum. So, I can only give you advice about ob/gyn nursing. It's the only area of nursing I've ever worked, so that must say something. It is so great working with newborns, and their families. There is a lot of teaching involved. You are taking care of the entire family, not just the mom and baby. I mean, you are literally taking care of the mom/baby couplet, but you must include the father or significant other, and siblings, grand parents. So, if you enjoy teaching and helping people it is a great unit to work on. Every hospital is different, at the one I work for we care for gyn. surgical patients as well as maternity patients. So you do get a little variety with your patient population. I highly recomend working in postpartum, it has made my life happier! Good luck with your decision and with school.

It would help (to answer some of your questions) to know what it is you're unhappy with about the UCF program. I've been an RN for ~20 years, a child psych CS for ~10 years, and I'm from Florida originally (my sister went to UCF).
