Hi Jackie, I'm Brenda. I've been a nurse for 8 years. You are starting a great career. I'm sorry to hear that you are not happy with the school you are attending. I live in Seattle, so I don't know anything about Florida, except I'd like to visit someday with my family! Anyway, I work in postpartum, and love it. I have responded to some other threads, so I feel like I'm repeating myself, but I really do so love nursing, and working in postpartum. So, I can only give you advice about ob/gyn nursing. It's the only area of nursing I've ever worked, so that must say something. It is so great working with newborns, and their families. There is a lot of teaching involved. You are taking care of the entire family, not just the mom and baby. I mean, you are literally taking care of the mom/baby couplet, but you must include the father or significant other, and siblings, grand parents. So, if you enjoy teaching and helping people it is a great unit to work on. Every hospital is different, at the one I work for we care for gyn. surgical patients as well as maternity patients. So you do get a little variety with your patient population. I highly recomend working in postpartum, it has made my life happier! Good luck with your decision and with school.

It would help (to answer some of your questions) to know what it is you're unhappy with about the UCF program. I've been an RN for ~20 years, a child psych CS for ~10 years, and I'm from Florida originally (my sister went to UCF).
