It was never easy when you are a foreign nurse. But I made it! I did not give up.

I am a BSN,RN in the Philippines since 2008 and came to the US in 2011. I worked full time as a certified nursing assistant here at the same time was working on my nursing credentials and TOEFL for about 2 years. Decided to take the Nclex for the first time last November 2013 and did not pass. That time i feel so pressured and anxious. So I have decided to go to casual on my job last January to have more time on my self-review for the NCLEX to become a USRN. ;)

I bought Lippincott's Q&A Review for Nclex-RN 11th edition, Kaplan, and PDA book by La Charity. I also have the Saunders book. I did the NCSBN learning extension for 5 weeks too.

It's very hard to do a self-review. You really need to be disciplined, determined, and manage your time to be able to understand and learn the nclex strategies.

The second time i took the exam, I was more relaxed, determined and focus. I did not notice i was very slow in answering the questions. I consumed the 6 hours and ran out of time in 157 questions. can you believe it? :D But it did not bother me. Hehehe.. I was not over analyzing or over thinking but i was very careful in choosing the answers since i got so many SATAs, Priotization, Delegation, Exhibits, procedures to rearrange, medications to question to the doctor. I just did my very best that time! ;)

So when the time expires, I panic! it just came to my senses that i ran out of time. LOL :D

I did not check the pop up trick or look up my name in the board of nursing for 1 week! because of the feeling that i did not pass again plus i ran out of time! hehehe... it was an agonizing experience. hehehe. My husband checked the nursys.com link if my license has already been posted coz he became impatient in waiting. so he checked the website after 6 days of waiting :). ;) He then found out that my license has been posted after 2 days i took the exam. He also told me he received an envelope from the board of nursing in the mail yesterday before he checked the website. I told him we can check the pearson vue another week. But my husband was determined to just get it done whatever the result is. and tadaaaa!! my license# was posted and the envelope in the mail was from the BON congratulating me for passing! What a surprise! ;D

Wow! I am still thankful to Lord Jesus, Mother Mary and St Joseph of Cupertino for giving me strength and peace. It's never easy. My husband has been a wonderful support to me. My family and friends in the Philippines, my co-workers, my patients here in US has been my inspiration coz they always have faith in me :). I've learned throughout this journey to believe in my self, think happy thoughts like you did your best and now let God do the rest. Prayer really does gives you strength!
