Well, with all these messages about passing this or that, I feel like such a failure:confused: I didn't pas smy med/surg class and I feel awful. In my school you have to have a 75% on you 3 exams and the final in order to pass the class, nothing else is averaged in until then. I got a 74.7 and they do not round, I will have to take it again in the fall, but I feel so discouraged and all alone:confused: Has this happened to anyone else but me? The only good thing is they will let me go on to take OB/Peds next semester, so in the fall I will have the one class (med/surg), the bad part is I have to do the clinicals over again too! Can anyone give me some words of encouragement? I really need it;)

You must be speaking about the on-line program at Chamberlain, that class is next to impossible to pass. Out of 17 people in my class, 4 passed, and who knows that was probably their 2nd time around. Good news is that they all switched to in-class and they are doing fine. The teacher in-class gets to writer her own test and prepares you for it. The on-line teacher is the total opposite so dont take it personal, sometimes the chips are stacked against you and no matter how hard you try, it is easy to make a test that people will fail.
Op- I will say that first, it is refreshing to hear from you. You aren't blaming others, denying responsibility, or begging for points. You appear to be interested in support and in bettering your performance. This is not common, and marks you as a true future professional.
As an instructor, I often see students fail, only to come back to be top of the class when they return. Those who are successful the second time do what you are doing: look for encouragement, try harder, and accept responsibility for learning. I have a feeling you will be just fine! My students enjoy two resources: an iPod app from Mosby for med Surg, and Saunders NCLEX book. You can do this. I know plenty of great nurses who've failed a semester. Also, consider looking for a pattern on your tests. Do you miss a certain type of question, or certain topics? There are also others: Nugent writes a book on test-taking strategies, and Colgrove writes a Med Surg success book :)

Michelle,
I failed the second semester of the first year (hubby had open heart surg, I missed about 2 weeks of school and couldn't get caught up. I had to wait a year before I could start back to repeat it. Then in 2nd year, I had to withdraw from Med/Surg b/c of husbands 2nd open heart surg, that was in Nov.'02. I was lucky to get back into the next semester's med/surg and ended up doing well (B). I just graduated last Friday (12-12-03). So you hang in there girl. You can do it!
