I need some resume help, please.

Published

I've been working with this format that a nurse educator gave me, but 6 months+ out of school, and I have no job offers. The "Key Areas of Strength" section supposedly allows me room to get Keywords into the text to pass the HR applicant tracking filters, and I adjust it based on the job description. Any help would be great. Edit: I don't know why that one part is getting pulled to the right, but it's not like that on the real one.

Overall, I think it is a good resume and nothing jumps out at me as being inappropriate -- or being the reason for not getting a job.

Except for 1 thing.

It is too generic. There is not indication that you have a particular interest in any particular type of job or patient population. Many (most?) hiring managers want to hire someone truly interested in working with the particular patients they will be caring for, doing the particular kind of work they will be hired to do.

So I recommend having different versions of your resume to submit for different types of jobs. For example, if you are applying to a pediatric job -- emphasize your interest in pediatrics and any previous experience you have working with children (in any capacity, not just nursing.) If you are apply for a job on an adult oncology floor, your resume should reflect an interest in adult med/surg, oncology patients, etc. If you are applying to a long term care facility where most of the patients are elderly, your resume should reflect an interest in working with the elderly. etc.

While your resume is OK, it doesn't reflect anything about you that is particularly suited for any particular job -- or that sets you apart from any other new grad. To get a job in a competitive market, you have to be "special" and "right for THIS job" -- not just OK.

I hope that helps a little.
