My husband has been disabled for 20 yrs on increasing levels of Oxycontin and now the new Pain Mgmt Doc wants to take him off it and refuses to write any scripts. My problem is my husband is now on Oxycontin 160mg q 6hrs with up to 12 tabs of 5mg Oxy IR per day for breakthrough. He takes 2 IR with each Oxy dose and rarely needs any more. I'm afraid this process will kill my husband or at the very least put him in a coma! Please my fellow Nurses I need your support. The fear of prosecution here in NY because of the abuse of folks who use recreationally has made it now impossibles for pts who really need them to get them. My husband's DX is failed back surgery syndrome and awaiting 2 knee replacements all under workers comp insurance which is an adventure in itself!!! Now with the CDC recommendations of only 90 mg Daily of Oxycontin type pain management I needed to reach as many of you as possible as quickly as I could so here I am Begging for help and guidance from my fellow Nurses!!!! Anything you may know that might help us will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!! THANK YOU FOR READING THIS!!!! kidsnurseNoreen aka geminikidsdnurse here and on Twitter!!!!

We are so sorry about what your husband is experiencing. Unfortunately, the site's terms of service prohibits the exchange of medical advice due to liability issues (no one can recommend a treatment plan online for someone they do not know).

Please ensure your husband sees his PCP or seeks out another opinion from a new pain management physician if he is dissatisfied with his current regimen. However, we are not qualified to advise him. Good luck to both of you.
