1) I have been a RN for 1 1/2 years.

2) I decided when I was younger that I wanted to be in the medical field...to begin with I wanted to be a doctor, but after realizing that I would be in school for so long, I decided to become a nurse. I am very happy too....probably happier than I would be as a dr!

3) I have my BSN so I went to college for 4 years.

4) I actually worked in the ER when I was going to school and just stayed on after I passed my boards.

5) I love helping people! It means so much when you saved someone's life and a couple of months later they come back and tell you how much they appreciate you. This is what makes my job worth it.

6) I get frustrated when I take care of "frequent flyers" and they are meaner than my other patients who are actually more sick than them and actually need to be there.

7) There are alot of politics involved...I just wish that I could do my job without worrying if I am going to be sued by this patient, their family, etc.

8) I work 7p-7a in the ER (Level 2) and we typically see about 60 patients/night. We also take care of inmates and that is scary always looking over your shoulder. We take care of trauma patients, but typically get them stabilized and ship them to a Level 1 trauma center.

9) when I started last year, I made $20/hr but I am guessing within 10 years, the pay will probably decrease. (although I hope not)

10) I think you should get at least 6 mos of experience on a med surg floor to begin with just so you can learn the in's and out's of nursing. then you could transfer to a specialty floor if you wanted to (L&D, ER, etc).

Good luck to you and I hope this helps!!
