Hello, All

my Question is this I found a ADN Program that seems to be a good one but when I read this below I became scared is this school legit. please let me know, thanks in advance.

"accredited by the Accrediting Council of Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) and approved by the State Board of Career College & Schools as well as the Ohio Board of Nursing (OBN).

ACICS is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education and is recognized by the Council for Higher Education

ACICS is a "legitimate" accrediting organization -- it is the organization that accredits private, proprietary voc/tech schools. I assume the other outfit is the OH version of the same thing.

However, if those are the only accreditations, the school, while approved by the OH BON for its graduates to be eligible for licensure, is not accredited by the NLNAC, the national nursing accreditation organization. NLNAC and CCNE accreditation are the only ones that matter when we talk about "accreditation" in nursing. Graduates of this school are not graduates of an "accredited" nursing program in the sense that people in nursing mean when they use the term. While graduates would have no problems getting licensed, they may have problems furthering their nursing education (as many, many nurses choose to do after they've been in nursing a while, even if they started out sure they would never want to -- and as you are already doing, yourself :)) in the future (getting accepted into other schools and being able to transfer their courses/credits from this school into a "regular" college or university), and some healthcare employers will only hire graduates of accredited (NLNAC or CCNE) programs, regardless of one having a valid nursing license. Not many employers, certainly not most, but some. It might never matter to you that you graduated from an unaccredited program; but why close any educational and career doors to yourself this early in the process??
