Hi everyone, so I have this paper for my Psychology class due in a week and the topic is : What first nations historical issues and cultural differences is it important for nurses to understand when dealing with native patients? I was wondering if anyone knows of some websites or literature that can help me with this. I would greatly appreciate any advice given :)

Well, you need to pick a type of native person and a country first, then look at the history and work out how it would affect your interaction with those people.

eg. there's a lot of anger and violence associated with the displacement of some native peoples from their land which might affect their likelihood of seeking medical treatment etc. Not to mention their beliefs with regard to traditional medicine.

thanks for the help i appreciate it. the type of aboriginal people we are studying is canadian aboriginal people and Would an understanding of natives history and cultural difference and affect the way you treat an aboriginal patient? why or why not?.
