I have been accepted into two ADN programs and I am confused. The first nursing program that I was accepted into is an hour away from my home and I already stated that I would attend this school. I have already purchased books and uniforms, which I can return if I have to. I have heard great things about the first school. My biggest problems are that the drive to school and to clinicals will be so long. The other thing is that the school does not participate in Federal student loans, that means I have to get a private loan or figure out something by the time school starts. School actually starts in the Fall quarter (September). I will have to work while in school and I am still trying to find a job that will work with my schedule.
The second school that I was accepted into is located 20 minutes from my home. This will be the schools first ADN class of 30 students, which starts in January 2010. I applied to this school because they had a reputable LPN program and I heard that the Nursing Director who was at another school is excellent. This school participates in the federal loan programs and this will be very helpful. I will also have enough time to look for a new job and prepare for school. The clinical sites will also be closer to my home.
I am really confused....what would you do?

Well, I think over 2 years time a short commute would really pay off. I'd choose the closer school. GL!

I would go with the closer school because of the drive and the financial aid issue. One reason that you would want to choose a closer school is because you might be given an employment opportunity at the hospital where you do your clinicals. The closer school is going to do clinicals at a closer hospital as well.
What are the two schools that you are considering?
:) Good luck to you!
Thank you very much for your responses. I am leaning towards the school thats closer. @Dallas, I have to choose between West Central Tech and Chattahoochee Tech.
Congratulations to you! That's wonderful news! I had applied to the new program at Chattahoochee but have not heard anything as of yet.
I had a good experience there....
When did you receive your letter?

Hi Blessed2009. I hope this doesn't sound too eeiry but I have been following the "I Got Into West Central" thread for quite some time now. I am so happy for all of you that got in and start Fall 2009. I hope I will experience the same joy a year from now. Anyhow, it sounds like you have a big decision to make. There are pros and cons to both schools but regardless of what they are it sounds like the biggest & possibly most important is the financial aid issue. If West Central doesn't allow federal aid & you have no other way to pay then as much as you may hate not to go there, being that it's your first choice & as heartwrenching as it will be to turn your space down, that may be what's best all things considered. It sucks. I know it's hard to look on the brighter side when your in the situation yourself but at least you were fortunate enough to get accepted to two schools...luckily one that does participate in federal aid. I'm sorry. I know that you feel torn right now but give it a day or two. Sometimes things seem clearer after you've had the chance to just think about things for a while. Good Luck.
Hi again Blessed2009. I wanted to ask you about the federal loan stuff you mentioned. At the risk of sounding totally ignorant I was just wondering what federal aid program is it that West Central doesn't participate in? What federal aid program does Chatt Tech participate in? The reason I ask is because I was planning on applying to both in addition to Georgia Highlands. I thought all schools accepted federal aid. Thanks much.

Thank you very muc. I got my acceptance letter on Saturday. I was really surprised because I thought the program had been pushed back again. The letter stated that the program starts in January and I have until August 15th to decide.
I appreciate your response Charlie2410. I have a big decision to make, I will go to the school and find out more information about the new program. West central does not certify any loans and so the only option would be applying for a private loan. I really do not want a private loan with the economic situation. They offer the pell grant, though I did not qualify based on the amount that I made.
