Hello everyone,
I'm glad to be back on the forums. Well I need help. I already had a good 1st interview with the Chief Nurse of the US Air Force in Hawaii and now I need the second interview to move paperwork process along. Frequently I get asked, "where did you work?" and I haven't had much to say since I never worked as an RN in the hospital, only outpatient/community settings with an agency giving flu shots. After I graduated with my BSN in Spring 2009, I entered the Master's FNP program in Fall 2009. Since then, I haven't had the time to work full time since I was going school full time and wanted to get good grades to increase my chances of getting the USAF Health Profession's scholarship, which is what I'm trying to get now. I am scheduled to complete the program in August 2009. Two recruiters I worked with told me "don't worry, you'll get it because there isn't much people applying for this as an NP" and the staff at the USAF medical clinic says they take in new grads just as how they took in new PA grads recently with no experience such as being a nurse. I'm a 24 year old dude btw just to give you basic info of me.
Since I am still considered a new grad with no previous extensive RN experience, I need to really sell myself to the FNP consultant of the AF Surgeon General. My interview is next Monday by phone. I made a BSN skills checklist of what I performed while in the BSN program and saved a PDF form of the Typhon Healthcare Solution thing that records your ICD-9, CPT, hours, diagnoses, etc. I also saved the NP Domains and FNP Competencies via PDF. Can someone help me with this and are there any resources that state why employers should hire new grad nurses/FNPs?
A plus is my professor this semester who is an FNP and CNM said the paper I wrote this semester may be able to get published. Just needs to have minor additions/fixes before final submission for publication to a journal. Sorry it's a long post.
