I am currently a student going to school to obtain my Bachelors in Health Care Management. I am in the midst of an assignment requesting information on how work schedules are produced in the Emergency Room to be sure that staffing requirements are being met accordingly. I have tried to search online and I am not able to locate much information except that most facilites use a program that does the scheduling for them.
If anyone can please help I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

Many hospitals use electronic self-scheduling for their staff. The schedule "drops" (opens) at pre-set intervals and the nurses fill in the wholes. One of the more popular programs is Boomerang.

One of the best ways to gather this information is to call/visit your local hospitals and ask them directly. The managers on those units will best be able to answer your questions and may even be able to provide you with a sample schedule or outline of the staffing tools that they use.
