I need advice! ADN or BSN

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello! I just opened this account today and so far I have found it very helpful.:) But I had a few concerns I was hoping someone can help me with. At the moment I am taking my prerequisites for nursing at a community college and so far I have a 3.0 gpa for 33 credits. But I took anatomy1 twice because I got a D the first time and the second time I received a B. I also have a couple of W's in my transcript as well. I was hoping to try to apply at Texas A&M in Corpus Christi next fall(fall2012) to get my BSN. But my dilemma is that I do not know wether to get my ADN at a community college then transfer later to a RN-BSN program. Or to go ahead and finish my prerequisites at the community college this year and transfer next fall to the University. Is it harder to get accepted into a nursing school at a University or is it the same as it would be to get your ADN? My main concern is also my transcript record I still have some classes left but I dont know if my D and W's will affect my chances. That is another reason why I do not know what to do. Because I dont want to apply at the University and spend all that money then later not be accepted to their nursing program. Is anyone in a similar situation?I would really appreciate any input in my situation!Thank you!

I did the LPN to ADN to BSN, did not regret it one bit. In fact I think doing the ADN first helps prepare you for the BSN program. In my class at UNC-CH, I was so much ahead of a lot of my classmates because of the experience I had obtained as a ADN. You need to talk to other ADN's that have gotten their degrees and see what they say. But ultimately it comes down to you, whether academically and finanically you are ready.

Ill take that into consideration, thank you for your advice:)
