I went from a prestigious level 1 trauma center to a small ED, I had to relocate to a whole new city. My new job is not a trauma center so I deal with a lot of abdominal pains, headaches, chest pains, everything medical, lots of psych issues as well. I'm starting to miss trauma a whole lot, I feel like here at my new job, I see the same thing over and over again. Anyone else have a similar experience? How'd you deal with it? I'm thinking of looking for a per diem job at a trauma center.

I've had a similar experience. A per diem job at a trauma center might not be a bad idea. But, also know that you will see occasional trauma, sometimes severe, because people sometimes panic and throw the injured person into the car and rush them to the closest ER instead of calling 911.

Funny, I made a reverse move and see fewer "fresh" traumas than ever, they are almost all prepackaged now.

Yesssss.... sigh. Same situation. However, I did trade in my level 1 for a hospital that has a better staffing ratio and a great reputation for pt care. PRN at the trauma centers where I work also float to ICU, CCU, etc, so I wouldn't be guaranteed just ED. So, I'll stay put for a bit. Best of luck!
