Hi everyone, I'm honestly heartbroken and hoping someone here can understand or offer advice.
I was in my third semester of nursing school at Bunker Hill Community College and had worked so hard to get there and failed. I passed my first two semesters and was doing everything I could to succeed. In order to retake the third semester I have to attend 2 credit nursing remediation course in the Summer. During Summer remediation, I had a sudden medical emergency and ended up hospitalized. While I was in the hospital, I couldn't complete assignments or take an exam, so l made the difficult decision to withdraw.
After that, I was told my withdrawal counted as a second failure, and I was removed from the nursing program. I tried to explain that I wasn't choosing to quit — I was in the hospital. I appealed to the department chair and the dean, shared my situation, and offered medical documentation, but my appeal was denied.
What hurts the most is that this happened in third semester. Being dismissed now means two years of my life and education feel wasted. Nursing has been my dream, and I feel like it was taken away because I got sick at the wrong time.
I'm now reaching out to the Dean of Students and the college president because I don't know what else to do. I'm not asking for special treatment — just for my medical situation to truly be considered.
If anyone has been through something like this, or knows whether reinstatement is ever possible after medical issues, I would really appreciate hearing from you. I'm trying to stay hopeful, but this has been incredibly painful.
