Hello. I'm currently an infusion field nurse. I go from home to home teaching patients how to infuse IV antibiotics through PICC lines, midline's and ports. I currently would like to start my own LLC which I know how to start the LLC. But, I'm not sure where to go from there. What insurance companies will let me bill? If I'm thinking correctly I would have to bill as a home health nurse (I think). Can anyone help me pleaseeeee. I'm not looking to have employees, just me. Please help. Oh sorry I live in Florida if that helps.

Hi Brich,
I am in the same process, but in the state of wisconsin. Here, I am pursuing the "Independent practice nurse" so that I may provide skilled nursing visits in homes in the community. I, like you, have an LLC. I also have an NPI number and an EIN number, plus an active registered nurse license. With all this in hand, I applied to Wisconsin Medicaid for certification. This certification allows a nurse to provide skilled nursing in a patient's home under only a physician's order and then submit for payment directly to Medicaid (one does have to submit for prior authorization though).
With all that said, that's just what one needs to get started. There's many more pieces I have yet to set in place before I'm really ready to proceed, especially figuring out which EHR to use (and pay for). Best of luck to you!
Thank you for your feedback. So after reading your comment I would need to apply for Medicaid certification. I have everything else. I wonder if we can bill other insurance companies (Humana, Medicare)? Also for your EMR system are you planning on seeing Medicare patients? Because if so Homecare Home Base was what I used when I worked in Home Health. Right now the infusion company I currently work for uses Alaya Care.

FYI: Medicare only pays for home health services provided by Medicare-certified home health agencies.
Refer to: Medicare Home Health Frequently Asked Questions
One would need to contact services with each individual insurance company. In PA, need to use EMR software approved by Medicaid in order to get paid. Will need to get separate access to medicaid/insurance eligibility software; PA requires criminal background check.
Look for your states "Provider Enrollment Information". Here's PA medicaid.
PA Tips for Selecting a Software or Service Vendor
Good luck in transitioning to contractor status.
