A couple years ago (right after my L&D rotation in school) my mom asked me the innocent question: What are contractions? Maybe the first though that comes to your mind is why wouldn't she know what a contraction is, but I never got around to investigating her reason for such a question. With a moment's hesitation, I said, it's what some of the baseball owners are trying to do to some of the smaller market teams such as the Milwaukee Brewers and Minnesota Twins. Next thing I know, I hear my mom laughing at me (on the other side of the phone line). Here is a slightly ironic thing about this. When I took my NCLEX, the only question I was 100% sure about was "How do you measure the frequency of contractions." Thank God they didn't include an answer about the Tampa Bay Devil Rays or I might not be on this forum today :-)
Maybe you had to be a baseball fan in 2000-2001 to appreciate this humor?
