Hi ,

I'll be going to college soon to university of phoenix to an accredited program , i also need the general education before hand but i wanted to go for a bachelor degree with ultrasound. The problem becomes although it's hard for anyone to start a career or find a job I've heard that it's difficult for a ultrasound tech to even get there foot in the door even just to shadow. I really want to be in this field I'm so curious about the body just the thought of being able to look inside the body is mind blowing. But reality comes back into play that I don't want to go thru all of this and spend loads of money /be in debt if I can't find a job in the field i went to school for. Is there any advice ,anything you wished before you got into this career someone would've told you, is there something in specific that i should go for like (radiology first) nursing or anything that would help. And I'm a military wife for those that are ultrasound techs in the military (navy) i don't know if that would help? Thank you in advance ~ Hope

If you're interested in sonography, PLEASE take a look at available community college programs or vocational schools. Don't leap into a very expensive commercial (investor owned) program when you can obtain the same goals for much less money in a traditional school. The commercial schools have very powerful recruitment programs... and can really target you with a very hard sell and they know exactly how to convince you!!!

In my part of the country, many ultrasound techs are employed in physician clinics Or hospitals. There are also some contract agencies that provide fill-in employees or on-call techs. I don't have detailed information, but have heard that it is not difficult for a certified tech to obtain employment.
