I just failed my first nursing exam

Published

I just got my grades back from my first nursing exam for fundamentals of nursing and I am devastated . I got a 72. Anything under an80 in my program is failing. I would be less negative if I hadn't studied for two weeks straight for this exam. I did practice questions read the book studied my notes and made flash cards and I still failed. I don't know what I did wrong because I felt great after the test and I did way worse than most of my classmates. I am so scared I'm going to fail out of this program and I feel completely overwhelmed and stupid now. Any advice ?

Do you know this is a diploma program, so you will not be awarded a degree? The only reason I am bringing this up is that these programs are pretty much all gone. You can still sit for the NCLEX and become an RN. Your problem is going to be finding a job afterwards. At one point, diploma programs were the bomb. They were awesome and some great nurses have come out of those programs.

These days, they want you to have a degree. I think the reason the cutoff is 80, is to try and hold on to their accreditation. Before going further, check your job market. And while yes, you will most likely obtain a job at their hospital, but what happens if you don't like it down the road? That is where your issue will come in. Research, research, research, schools, job markets, the job itself.....

I would keep going and don't stop because of your 'local job market.' Nursing are and will be in demand. If you can sit for the NCLEX once you get done with school do it. You can relocate if needed, and if you must get your BSN (which yes CMS is projecting all to have their BSN by like 2025 or something within our health system. (Could be wrong on the date) You can get your BSN later if you have to. Stopping though doesn't make sense.
