I Just Don't Know Where to Start

U.S.A. Maryland

This is my first post on this board so please forgive me if I'm not doing it right.

I am seriously researching quitting my job and taking a few years to get a nursing degree. I have a bachelor's in sociology but am doing nothing with it and really feel like nursing is the ideal job for a working mommy. There are so many options out there and I was hoping that you all could help me out.

What type of nursing degree do you have?

Where did you get it? What type of program did you complete your education through (accelerated, full time traditional, online, evening/weekends, etc.)?

What are you doing with your nursing degree now?

What path did you take to get where you are now (career progression)?

Where do you want to go in the future?

Do you see a big difference in starting salary/advancement opportunities for those with BSN versus AA?

Anything else I missed?

Feel free to send me a PM if you don't want to post info on the open forum emotion-2.gif

Thanks in advance!!

Well, I'm not a nurse yet so I can't answer most of your questions. But I have been pleasantly surprised at how convenient my local community college has been. They offer classes during the day, evenings, Saturdays and online, so the prereqs have been fairly easy to fit into my schedule. They also offer an evening/weekend program for nursing school, which is perfect for me because I am home with our younger children during the day.

I anticipate it will be a good job for me because since nurses are needed 24/7, I plan to work part time evenings/weekends until our children are older, then I will most likely switch to full-time days.

From the little bit I understand about the ASN vs BSN, is that BSN doesn't pay much higher as a starting salary, but there are more opportunities available (such as management positions).
