I am having a hard time deciding!

Published

I have always wanted to be a nurse , Specificaly a L&D RN since I was a little girl. I am drawn to the medical field and science has always been my most favorite subject. But I know that just because you have a dream doesn't mean that is what you would be best at. Everyone tells me I "look like a nurse" and Ive been told I have the right personaility for it. I have great career ethics and I am very compassionate. Ive been told at times that I'm very friendly but can tell it like it is without offending someone . I currently have a 3.4 I know its not enough. I still have some pre-reqs to finish so hopefully I can pull A's and get the gpa to rise.

I understand what nursing is about and I know about all the stress that can come with it.

Im worried about all the people who say they are "burnt out" Does that happen often?

To those who are nurses now, Do you regret it? If you could go back would you pick nursing again? if not what else would you pick?

I am also worried about my children! I have a 6 year old and a 8 year old. I am currently a waitress working 5 nights a week . They are in school during the day and go to their dads every other weekend, the RN hours couldn't get much worse then this right>? I just want to be able to provide a comfortable income for my family while doing something that makes me feel like I am making a difference. I want a job that means something but I don't want it to take too much away from spending time with my kids. I want better then what I have now.

I have also been toying with the idea of a medical diagnostic sonographer or a real estate agent . I know the real estate agent is out of the medical field but I like the idea of making your own hours.

As a nurse what field would you say is the best? Icu,Nicu,med-surge ?

I am a very indecisive person when it comes to making decisions that impact myself and Im just trying to get as much information as possible before I make a commitment. Once I'm in thats it. No turning back. I am not expecting anyone to make my mind up for me. Im doing research to come up with a educated decision. Im 32 years old. I think its time I figure this out.

So just to clarify .. Im deciding between sonography, RN , or Real estate agent. I need as much information as you can give me.

Thank you for you kind help in advance!

Have you tried shadowing someone in the professions you are interested in? Sometimes, that little glimpse into the life of a (fill in the blank) can help you make that decision. Why not try contacting hospitals about shadowing a sonographer and an RN for a shift? You can also try contacting real estate agencies to shadow an agent.

I would love to shadow I just wasn't sure how to go about doing that. Thanks for the reply :) I love this site. I have read past posts similar to mine.I just thought I would also post my own for a more personal response to my individual questions :)
