I have a student loan through Frost, but I think all student federal secured loans are about the same. I have 6 months grace period. That is I can take the summer off, or maybe even a semester, but before the last day of that 6 month period I must be enrolled full time again or my loan goes into repayment. It does say they consider "Being enrolled" to mean at least half time or 6 credit hours. Now that being said I am wondering if during that 6 months grace period you could take less than half time, and be ok as long as you are enrolled full time by the end of the 6 months period. That would allow you to to take less than half time one semester, and then you would have to enroll in at least half time the next. I would call them, and ask them that question.

I dropped to less than half time and had to begin repaying. Which was fine. The reason I dropped hours was because I have only one class to take!!
Good luck to you in all that you do.
